Transvulcania 2017, through the solidarity campaign ‘Bibs that give life’, has put in place different actions to contribute the regeneration of the mountains of La Palma affected by the fire in 2016. In this way the organization of the test will plant a tree and, additionally, will donate a euro for each runner who crosses the winning post.
In this way the 3,600 athletes who are expected to participate in this ninth edition of Transvulcania will have one more reason to complete their distance. With their effort and dedication they will contribute to this territory.
The Minister of Sports of the Cabildo of La Palma, Ascensión Rodríguez, explained that with this campaign “we help to preserve the heritage that makes our island so special and care for the trails and spaces”. In the same way she pointed out that the participants who come to La Palma to enjoy this event every year respect the island.
The devastating fire of last year took 4,864 hectares of surface palm distributed between different municipalities including zones of Transvulcania.
Fortunately, thanks to the collaboration of all personnel, the situation was completely controlled after nine days of intense work. The objective of this solidarity action, which will be carried out thanks to the finishers of the Ultramarathon, Marathon, Half Marathon and Vertical Kilometer, is to achieve the regeneration of thousands of hectares of protected species.
