Transvulcania Naviera Armas 2017 presented this morning its ninth edition to the specialised and general national media at the headquarters of the Press Association of Madrid. The aim of this action was to promote the main attractive aspects of the sporting event that will be celebrated the next May 13th, and that attracts thousands of runners and fans to La Palma.
The presentation event was chaired by journalist María Escario and had the participation of the two times trail world champion, Luis Alberto Hernando, and the Sports Counsellor of the La Palma Island Council, Ascensión Rodríguez.
In the words of Rodríguez, “Transvulcania has changed from being a sporting event to become a social event for La Palma, in which all the population help and collaborate.”
Ascensión Rodríguez highlighted that “it is remarkable that last November the 2.000 places of the Ultra Marathon were filled, something that demonstrates the dimension of a race in which sportsmen from over 50 countries take part.”
According to Luis Alberto Hernando, three times Transvulcania Ultra Marathon champion, “to feel the warmth of the crowd once you cross the finish line after 74 kilometres is an incredible motivation, that is the reason why each year I return to Transvulcania. There is no other race in the international circuit that make me feel the passion and support that I experience in this event.”
The organizers of the competition have confirmed for the next May the participation of outstanding athletes like Pau Capell, Azahara García, Remigio Huamán, Yuri Yoshizumi, Tom Owens, Caroline Chaverot or Ludovic Pommeret.
