Transvulcania Naviera Armas 2017 started today the registration period for the volunteers that are interested in collaborating with the organization during the competition in its different modalities. As happened in previous years, the registration points for the La Palma residents will be the local councils of the island, while the rest of requests will be attended through the website of the race (http://transvulcania.info/voluntarios/?lang=es) until the expected quota of requests for this ninth edition is covered.
The Sports and Youth Counsellor of the La Palma Island Council, Ascensión Rodríguez, expressed her gratitude for the high number of requests to be part of this volunteering experience that have arrived through our communication routes. “Some of the main attractions highlighted by the runners that travel to La Palma to participate in Transvulcania are the hot weather, the closeness and the will to cooperate of all the volunteers that walk them until they cross the finish line,” added Rodríguez.
In particular, Ascensión Rodríguez emphasized “the involvement of the La Palma population and the popularity of this race among them, because it is already part of the identity of the island.”
The people that process their request in the local administrations of the island will be part of the working groups located in the provisioning points of the race, as well as part of the finish line assistance device.
Another way of participating is related to the specialized volunteers that will be part of the safety and emergencies operational procedure planned for the event.
Collectives such as Ayuda de Emergencias Anaga (AEA), Alfa Tango, the Unidad Canina de Rescate y Emergencias La Palma (UCREP) and different units of Protección Civil will constitute this second contingent, which will be reinforced by staff of the Armed and Security State Forces (Civil Guards, local and military policemen), and by the Cruz Roja and the La Palma Fire Department.
Other organizations that will cooperate, though with different goals, are some La Palma training centres, sporting clubs and volunteers of the Obra Social La Caixa, an entity that confirmed yesterday its collaboration with the Transvulcania Kids-Junior modality.
