Transvulcania Naviera Armas 2017 will have new medical equipment that will contribute to guarantee the participant’s health, helping this event to become the race with more cardioprotected kilometres in the world, thanks to the agreement between the La Palma Island Council and the company Atlantic Emergency.
This way, the organisers of the competition will reinforce the security measures that are planned for the most multitudinous edition of Transvulcania, with 3.600 runners distributed among the four modalities (Ultra Marathon, H10 Hotels Marathon, Half Marathon and Vertical Kilometre).
The presentation act of this agreement was attended by the Sports Counsellor of La Palma, Ascensión Rodríguez; the Emergencies and Citizen Participation Counsellor, Carmen Brito; the Atlantic Emergency manager, Kevin García; the director of the La Palma Health Area, Beatriz Páez; the manager of Hospital General de La Palma, José Izquierdo; the medical head of the race, Francisco Ferraz, and the AEA mountain rescue responsible, Rubén Arrocha. It is also important to highlight the involvement of the Transvulcania Security Plan’s manager, Rubén David Fernández.
This cooperation will allow the installation of more than 50 semiautomatic external defibrillators (DESA) in both the advanced life support (SVA) and basic life support (SVB) ambulances, as well as in medical positions, in the Protección Civil devices distributed over the Transvulcania route and as part of the stuff that the pick-up teams will transport.
The Sports Counsellor of the La Palma Island Council, Ascensión Rodríguez, remarked that “the main goal of Transvulcania is to guarantee the well-being and health of the participants, considering the titanic effort involved in finishing distances up to 74 kilometres, as in the case of the Ultra.”
The equipment is approved by the international standards regarding the disposition of electromedical devices for big mountain competitions. This measures will increase the survival chances in case of faint, syncope, unconsciousness or cardiac crisis.
Finally, it is important to remember that this ninth edition of Transvulcania will repeat as an official event of the Migu Run Skyrunner® World Series 2017.
