Transvulcania 2017 has been recently evaluated by the International Trail Running Association (ITRA), so in this ninth edition the Ultramarathon has scored four points, while the Marathon and the Half Marathon have received two points each. Thanks to this evaluation, the three modalities obtained one more year the seal of races which count towards the Ultra Trail Mont Blanc 2018.
This evaluation system, with a maximum of six points, pays special attention to parameters such as distance and vertical gain, awarding races with long climbs. With this assessment, the three modalities retain the certifications that they obtained the last year.
The Sports and Youth Counsellor of the La Palma Island Council, Ascensión Rodríguez, highlighted that “this recognition by the ITRA help us to continue improving and strengthen Transvulcania among the best races in the international calendar of this sport.”
In the same way, Rodríguez remembered that “this scoring, beyond the boost that gives to our race, is a prize to the preparation and tenacity of all the athletes that each year trust us and manage to cross the finish line of the Ultra, the Marathon or the Half Marathon.”
It is important to remember that the ITRA is the reference used by the Ultra Trail Mont Blanc to admit their participants for several years. Thus, it is particularly relevant that Transvulcania retains this seal of race with points counting towards the event regarded by many as the most prestigious of the mountain ultra distance.
