The „Cowboy“ Cody Reed plans to “raid” the Transvulcania

By Press 0

The American runner, who represented the National Team at the World Cup, is going to run the Transvulcania.

The organization of the tenth edition of the Transvulcania continues revealing some of the elite runners that are going to take part at the tenth edition of the race. Cody Reed belongs to a group of runners of Flagstaff (Arizona) that call themselves the “Coconino Cowboys”. This group of runners have made a strong positive impact in the world of the trail running. Some of the members of this group are Tim Freriks, the reigning champion of the Transvulcania or Jim Walmsley, the actual world number one in ITRA ranking.

Cody Reed started to compete in 2016, as he used to play other sports like lacrosse or cross-country. In the same year, Reed showed his talent, as he won different races, e.g. the “Miwok 100K”, the “Tamalpa Headlands” or the “Ultra Race Of Champions”. In 2017, he continued showing his amazing competitiveness, as he won more races, like the “Black Canyon Ultras” or the “Under Armour Mountain Killington”. Cody began this season very strong finishing second in Tarawera Ultramarathon and Bandera 100.

His great achievements gave him the opportunity to represent his country last year at the World Cup in Badia Prataglia, at the Tuscany. However, as he told us, this year “I did not plan running the World Cup, instead I do want to run for the first time the Transvulcania. I have heard that it is one of the most spectacular races worldwide, and in addition, my friend Tim Freriks told me that it was an amazing experience running this race last year, so I decided to run the Transvulcania too”. He also added that “it is one of the most competitive races in the world and I want to be there for that, and to travel to this amazing looking island”.

The sports counsellor of La Palma, Ascención Rodríguez, said that “it is a privilege to see how the list of elite runners of this tenth edition is constantly growing”. She commented that “the podium of the tenth edition of the Transvulcania is going to be the most competed ever”.
