The Vertical Kilometer of Transvulcania, which will take place on next May 11th, has a new candidate for victory. The man in question is the young Rémi Bonnet (Salomon International team), who in the last years has become one of the revelations in the trial world thanks to outstanding achievements like the one he obtained in 2015, when he conquered the World Circuit of this distance with only 20 years old.
The Swiss athlete arrives to La Palma with the clear goal of giving current world champion of the modality, Stian Angermund-Vik, a real hard time. Angermund-Vik also confirmed his participation in the race some weeks ago. Bonnet will also be present at the starting line of the Half Marathon, planned for May 13th.
The Sports Counsellor of the La Palma Island Council, Ascensión Rodríguez, placed value on the effort that Rémi and other runners will make “to participate in two events of great physical demand in only two days.” “This commitment with Transvulcania shows the recognition that this competition has among the big international stars of this sport,” she affirmed.
The 22-year old Rémi Bonnet is the only athlete of his age that exceeds 900 points in the ITRA ranking. This fact and his extensive track records are his credentials to chase the win in the Vertical Kilometer and try to beat his personal best.
His short but intense professional career has notable wins in races such as Red Bull K3, Trentapassi Skyrace 2016, Run The Rut 2015 25K, Lantau 2 Peaks Skyrunning 2015 and the prestigious Limonextreme 2015. He has also shined in other sporting disciplines, winning the Junior World Championship of Sky Mountain back in 2013.
There is only one left month for Transvulcania Naviera Armas 2017, which repeats as an official race for the Migu Run Skyrunner® World Series 2017.
