The athlete Pau Capell has confirmed recently his presence at the Transvulcania 2017 Ultramarathon, an event that will take place on May 13th in the island of La Palma. The Catalan runner returns to the main event of Transvulcania after a creditable 20th place in the 2015 edition.
Capell faces this challenge after a successful 2016. Among other achieves, his highlights include victories in the TDS of the Ultra Trail Mont Blanc and the Ultra Trail Australia. Furthermore, ha was selected by the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation to compete in the IAU Trail World Championship in Peneda-Gerês, where he contributed to the silver medal obtained by the Spanish national team with an 11th place. He has also performed outstandingly in the 2016 Vibram Hong Kong (4th), the 2016 Ultratrail Lavareda (6th) and the Transgrancanaria (3rd).
The Sports and Youth Counsellor of the La Palma Island Council, Ascensión Rodríguez, showed her excitement because “one of the best runners of our country returns to Transvulcania after an astonishing year for his professional career.”
For his part, Capell remembered his participation in 2015 and stressed “the atmosphere that we experienced and the disinterested involvement of the islanders to make this race unforgettable for all the runners.” On the other hand, he declared that “the route of Transvulcania includes many sections with different features that never leaves nobody indifferent.”
Pau’s career in the ultra-trail world in relatively short, considering that he started to run in the mountains only three years ago as a strengthening therapy after a serious injury on his left leg. During his first year of competition, he surprised everybody winning the Catalonia Ultra Championship and just a year later he conquered the Spanish Championship.
