Greek sportsman Dimitrios Theodorakakos will participate for the second time in the Transvulcania Naviera Armas 2017 the next May 13th with the objective of winning the Ultra Marathon. The Team Salomon International athlete returns to La Palma as one of the best runners in the history of his country.

His dominance of this discipline in the Hellenic country is clear after his three victories in the Olympus Marathon (2013, 2014 and 2016), which is the most international Greek sporting event, offering the athletes the possibility to climb and crown the Mount Olympus. He also stepped onto the podium of this competition in 2011, 2012 and 2015.

The Sports Counsellor of the La Palma Island Council, Ascensión Rodríguez, celebrated the presence of Theodorakos in the island and stressed the variety of nationalities that are registered in this ninth edition. “The participation of the best athletes in the world in Transvulcania mean a bigger and international impact of the natural and landscape richness of the island,” she affirmed.

Dimitrios Theodorakakos played an important role in the 2015 edition of Transvulcania, considering that it was his debut in the competition. He crossed the finish line in sixth place, less than a second away of North American Zach Miller, who finished fifth.

In 2016 he closed a great season with a praiseworthy sixth position in the tough The North Face Endurance Challengue California, beating opponents that have reached the Transvulcania podium like Sage Canaday. Besides, he obtained the second place in the Ultra Skymarathon Madeira 2016, just a few minutes behind the winner and fighting for the victory until the last kilometre.

Other remarkable performances by him in the international trail running scene have been the second place in the Salomon 4 Trails 2015 or his victories in The North Face Zagori Mountain Running 2016, Elinikon Cross Country Race 2016 and Metsovo Ursa Trail 2014, among other races.

Dimitris Theodorakakos will join his teammates Remigio Huamán, Rémi Bonet, Ida Nilsson and Caroline Chaverot, who are already confirmed. This fact proves the importance that the La Palma race have for the big teams of this sport, which pull for its main stars for the win.

It is important to remember that Transvulcania Naviera Armas 2017¸ official race of the Migu Run Skyrunner® World Series 2017, will have 3.600 athletes distributed in its four modalities (Vertical Kilometer, Ultra Marathon, Marathon and Half Marathon).
